Dog advice please?

I just need opinions here. I have a friend who has been a breeder of long haired german shepherds for over 20 years. Well...she's been getting ill a lot lately and I was getting a puppy from her and she has asked me if I would be interested in taking one of her older dogs being as she doesn't want them to go to "just anyone" she trusts me and since she has been ill (she has one kidney and the other hasn't been doing so well) she thinks she should downsize a bit to give herself some more time to rest and recuperate as well as even more time to spend with the dogs she is for sure keeping. I'm thinking of taking one of the older dogs (she's 1) and giving up the puppy she selected to a new home. Do you think I'm doing the right thing by trying to help her out and make things easier on her? Opinions please.
