Can a person survive with a bullet through the heart?

Hi, weird question, I know, but I'm writing a short fictional piece for a cl and one of my characters gets shot through the heart. I tried researching a cause and effect (a step-to-step guide (for lack of a better word) of the process when something like that occurs) but to my dismay, the internet failed to provide me with some helpful info. I would like my story to be as real as possible and not like anything Hollywood has pertained, so I just want to know if it is possible for a person to survive with a bullet through the heart. If it is not possible for someone to survive through an ordeal such as that, then how long does it take for a person to die? I appreciate any info! Thanks! :)
