Brutality in Women's Prison?

My girlfriend/co-worker V E R Y stupidly drank and drove and was arrested....for the second time earlier this year! The judge sentenced her to six months in jail, with a reporting date of Feb. 1, 2011. She is obviously freaking out, and told me recently that she is dealing with thoughts of suicide after being told by an female acquaintance in a court mandated DUI cl that "pretty girls like you have an especially rough time. One girl I knew was jumped and held down by a gang of cellmates while one of them d her with a broomstick"!!!!! Is this sort of thing commonplace? Are women prisoners actually this barbaric? Very disturbing.
